L'appel du large (The call of the open sea)
Schedule : 12:30
Canada / 2010 / Color / 10 min. / Producer : Julie Gratton
Joseph, Édouard et Ludger Simard ont édifié à Sorel-Tracy un chantier naval qui a connu son apothéose au cours de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale. Cet « âge d’or » a profondément marqué l’imaginaire sorelois.
Schedule : 13:30
Canada / 2009 / Color / 45 min. / Producer: Cimon Charest
Winter 2009. The Lachance family decides to recreate a crossing of the Saint-Laurence River in an ice canoe, as their ancestors did in the past. At the same time, Nathalie Dufour and her ice-canoe racing teammates take on their new season in an ultra-modern racer. Two very different human experiences that highlight a unique sport made in Quebec!
Les voiles de Borollos (The sails of Borollos)
Schedule : 14:45
Egypt / 2010 / Color / 22 min / Producer : Raymond Collet
Located between the Nile and the Mediterranean, Borollos Lake is one of the last refuges of traditional fishing. In this shallow lagoon, fishing is done with a basic trawl made from greater sailboats. Sitting low in the water, these unique, fast and powerful boats have a keel adapted to the lake and its fishing conditions. They are propelled by an over-sized lateen sail. The film follows the fishermen on the lake, detailing the fishing techniques and following the construction of one of these boats from the building of the keel to the boat launch.
La dernière mission : Histoire du U-190 (The last mission : Story of the U-190)
Schedule : 15:30
It is the final months of the Second World War, and German submarine forces are faced with the overwhelming superiority of the Allies. Despite heavy casualties, the U-boat crews keep on fighting. Some vessels even venture along the North American coastline. A few weeks before the end of the conflict, one of these ships, the U-190, is outside Halifax, Nova Scotia, looking for enemy vessels.
On April 16, 1945, the U-190 torpedoes the Canadian minesweeper HMCS Esquimalt, which rapidly sinks. Dozens of men fight for survival in the icy waters of the North Atlantic. Out of 71 crew members, 44 will perish.
The men of the U-190 do everything in their power to escape the Canadian Navy and try to reach their Norwegian base of operations. But the war is nearing its end and the U-190 crew, worried bout the fate of both their country and loved ones, anxiously await the outcome of their final mission.

Around Cap Horn
Horaire : 13:30
États-Unis / 1980 / Noir et blanc / 37 min. / Réalisation : Kenneth E. Mahler
Simple in production but brilliant in content, this is our best-selling video to date. Captain Irving Johnson sailed aboard the bark "Peking" in 1929, as the sun set on the day of commercial sail. During his voyage on the big German windjammer, Johnson compiled unequaled footage of the crew's daily activities, and spectacular images of a wild storm as the ship made the dangerous passage around. Johnson's narration of the trip is a delight.
Boxed in under the stars
Horaire : 14:45
France / 2006 / Color / 59 min. / Production: Emmanuel and Maximilien Berque
Fifty-three year old twins from the Landes in France, leave Lanzarote on March 31st – on board the Microméga 3, a tiny 300 kg outrigger canoe that they have designed and built in their attic - to cross the Atlantic, without a compass, a watch, a sextant or GPS, without a log, a radio or transistor, without a map, a book or even a guide of the stars. For 27 days, sheltered by their 1.5m3 box, and without a cooker, they only consumed 49 liters of water, 65 cans of sardines, 4kg of powdered milk, 2kg of sugar and 8 kg of gofio, a roasted flour from the Canary Islands mixed with a type of raw Coryphaenidae meat that they fish. On April 27th, and in spite of some twenty very cloudy days, Emmanuel and Maximillien Berque reached the Island they were aiming for - the Désirade in Guadeloupe - after 6000 km of navigating without instruments “just like the Maoris who probably crossed the Atlantic in a similar fashion 2000 years ago”, thanks to their knowledge of the skies. A feat more impressive than that of Thor Eyerdhal and his famous ‘Kon-Tiki”, which was equipped with a radio and navigational instruments.
